Motorola Droid Ultra review: a phone that doesn't need to exist

After roughly nine months of almost complete radio silence, Google-owned Motorola suddenly sprang into action by announcing four devices in the space of

Solid performance for a mid-range phone ; Great firmware and useful features ; Impressive battery life

Priced too high ; Fingerprint magnet ; Feels redundant on Verizon's lineup

The Motorola Droid Ultra is a good phone, but it's a mid-range device that's priced too high and doesn't offer any benefits that you won't already find on the Moto X.

Motorola Droid Ultra and Droid Maxx review

Before there was "Nexus," there was Droid. Verizon, Motorola, HTC, and others teamed up to turn the Lucasfilm-licensed term into a synonym for everything great about Android. It deserved the...

Lots of useful additions to Android ; Solid call quality

Awful design ; Weak build quality ; Poor battery life ; Lots of Verizon bloatware ; AMOLED display has a few issues

No one should ever buy this phone

Motorola Droid Ultra review

How does the Droid Ultra stack up against its competition?

Nice 5-inch screen ; Very light and thin ; Excellent battery life ; Touchless Control works well ; Snappy overall performance

Large for most pockets ; Glossy finish attracts fingerprints ; Camera performance is very poor

Great workhorse of a smartphone, but camera needs software improvements

Motorola Droid Ultra review

The Droid Ultra's $199.99 price and even its very existence baffles me. Standing smack dab in between the affordable $99.99 Droid Mini and pricey $299.99 Droid Maxx , the only reason to choose the Ultra is either because you value trimness above all...

The superthin Motorola Droid Ultra has a lovely, large screen and takes pleasing pictures. The phone also has long battery life and offers slick tricks such as advanced voice commands and screen-based notifications.

The Motorola Droid Ultra’s chassis feels slippery, collects prints and smudges easily, and isn’t comfortable to hold. The phone has just 16GB of internal storage and no SD card slot.

Unless you want the thinnest smartphone on the block, the more powerful HTC One and Droid Maxx are better buys.

Trim and long-lasting: The Motorola Droid Ultra

Boasting all the whiz-bang new Android features of the Moto X, the new Droid Ultra is also superthin and sports a big, colorful screen.

The superthin ; has a lovely, large screen and takes pleasing pictures.

Motorola DROID Ultra Review

The best way to think of the Motorola DROID Ultra is an incremental update of the DROID RAZR HD. Needless to say, the Motorola DROID Ultra has plenty of competition, mostly from the Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, and LG G2 – all of which are top-tier...

Good build quality using Kevlar construction ; Close to stock Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with exclusive Motorola apps ; Excellent call quality

Glossy back is a fingerprint magnet ; No expandable storage

Coming in at $199.99 with a 2-year contract, the DROID Ultra has a lot to offer, especially if you are looking for a device running as close to stock Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean as possible, while still offering some extra “Motorola perks” such as the...

Motorola Droid Ultra Review

Moto's Droid Ultra is Verizon's latest flagship, and virtually identical to the vaunted Moto X. It's a bit bigger, however, with a 5-inch display. So, what's so great?

Nice design ; Fast and stable operation ; Camera quick access is superb

Glossy build, a fingerprint and smudge magnet ; Too much Verizon bloatware ; No microSD or user-accessible battery

The Motorola Droid Ultra is a good phone, bottom line. It’s fast, stable, and sports excellent software with fun features. It’s also wonderfully designed, with only its glossy build providing pause for consideration. However, the smudge fingerprint...
