Asus PadFone X review: Like no other

The Asus PadFone X for AT&T is the Taiwanese manufacturer's first offering from the family of hybrid devices to officially hit the US market. Announced during this year's CES in Las Vegas, the device consists of a high-end Android handset and a tablet...

5" Super IPS+ display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels ; Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Asus Zen UI out of the box ; 2.3GHz quad-core CPU; Adreno 330 GPU; Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SoC; 2GB RAM ; 13MP PixelMaster camera with 4K video recording and LED...

Not the best looking handset around ; Rather late to hit the market (six months after the product announcement) ; No IR blaster ; Tablet has huge bezels ; Heavy in tablet mode

The Asus PadFone X is one of the best-rounded high-end propositions available in the Android realm at the moment. It skillfully blends a powerful chipset, a good display, and a capable camera into a solidly built package, thus offering a mighty good...

ASUS Padfone X review: A phone to replace your tablet? Not quite.

I doubt ASUS knew it was carving out a place in Android history when it revealed the first Padfone back in 2011. That's not just because it starred in an

Good display quality on both the phone and tablet ; Ample horsepower ; On-contract price is just right

Switching between phone and tablet modes can be awkward ; Uninspired, clunky design ; Speaker quality leaves much to be desired

ASUS' Padfone X promises seamless switching between phone and tablet modes, but the company's execution doesn't live up to expectations. While some might like the curious combo for its low price tag, most people would be better served by two separate...

Asus PadFone X

When I first looked at it, the skeptic in me remained unconvinced. It's too clunky. It bulges in the back. And at $200 on-contract (or $550 without), it seemed better to invest in a single top-tier tablet or handset, rather than settle for two...

AT&T's Asus PadFone X has a fast quad-core processor, a capable 13-megapixel camera, and it can dock into a 9-inch tablet that doubles as a charger.

When combined, the PadFone X has a clunky design and its rear-camera loses a few some of its features. The device also comes with a lot of bloatware and a nonremovable battery.

Though it has last year's specs, the PadFone X marries two mobile devices into one convenient form at an affordable price.

Asus PadFone X (AT&T)

While not a perfect union, the modular Asus PadFone X offers a compelling smartphone and tablet combo for the price of a typical smartphone alone.

Tablet dock included in base price. Nice full-HD display on phone and tablet. Good overall performance. Quick and easy transition from phone to tablet.

Unexciting smartphone design, and clunky as a tablet. Performance lag in tablet mode.

Asus PadFone X Review

Although it's a smartphone at its core, the Asus PadFone X is unique for its ability to instantly transform into a versatile 9-inch tablet – giving it a useful dual-functionaly, which is undoubtedly its key selling point. Before its anticipated release...

You get a smartphone & tablet combo for $200 on-contract ; Display produces some of the most accurate colors ; Processor might be “old”, but it’s still delivers a peppy performance ; Fast snapping camera that takes good looking photos

Design of both the smartphone and tablet is uninspiring ; Camera photos lack detail ; Call quality is a bit on the challenging side ; 4K video recording quality is very choppy

2-in-1 devices are undoubtedly useful, seeing that it eliminates the need to purchase two different things. As a phone, the Asus PadFone X can’t stack up against the sluggers in the space at the moment, it just can’t. Furthermore, this combinational...

Asus' hybrid Android smartphone-tablet is an interesting device. It tries to be two things at once, but only does one thing really well. Here is Phone Scoop's full report.

ASUS PadFone X review: a beginner’s flagship with a tablet in the box

Thanks to AT&T, the PadFone has finally made landfall on US shores. Find out if this quirky phone/tablet hybrid is your speed in our ASUS PadFone X review!

Unbeatable value for a phone/tablet combo ; Powerful specs ; Camera low-light performance is impressive

Unremarkable smartphone and cumbersome, heavy tablet ; Unpolished software inferior to stock Android ; Continuous usage impossible with many apps ; Smartphone battery life not the best

The PadFone X isn’t the world’s most attractive smartphone … or tablet. It’s cumbersome, it’s bulky, and whether it offers enough convenience to overcome these setbacks is an open question. In today’s cloud-oriented mobile world, the average person...
