Bought this in Dec of '06 for a rental. Never had a problem.

All I can say is you get what you pay for. This is not a high end unit, the top warped not long after the warranty expired, The black paint has come off from cleaning and I don't use abrasive cleaners of any kind.

Having used this cooktop for over a year now, I find that it is a very reliable unit. Easy to clean and I love the lift up of the cook top to clean under it. I think I might spend more the next time and get the sealed burner unit for even easier clean...
