Slim, compact design. Optical image stabilisation. Pleasing image quality. Optical viewfinder.

Horizontal mode switch is somewhat awkward. Misleading "manual" mode. Average-sized 2.5-inch LCD display.

The Canon Digital IXUS 85 IS looks good, performs well, and offers all the usual bells and whistles, but fails to stand out in the crowded IXUS line-up.
