Galaxy S10 review: As good as the S10 Plus, in a smaller package

 

The Galaxy S10 is a terrific phone, but not the most obvious S10 choice.

Like all of Samsung's Galaxy S10 phones, the standard S10 is built from the best parts, has a wonderfully sharp screen and long battery life. Camera quality is great, and it comes with all the extras, like the ability to wirelessly charge another device.

As with the Galaxy S10 Plus, the S10's in-screen fingerprint reader is hit or miss, and its camera lacks a standalone night mode that other rivals have.

The excellent Galaxy S10 shares the Galaxy S10 Plus and Galaxy S10E's best traits, albeit with less distinction.

The midsize Samsung Galaxy S10 has all the attractive features of the S10+ for less money, but we still think the smaller S10e is a better buy.

Great screen. Fastest possible processor and LTE. Triple cameras with 2x and wide-angle. Headphone jack and microSD card slot.

Expensive. In-display fingerprint sensor has no physical guide.

The Galaxy S10 is a little better than the S10e in a bunch of ways, including more RAM, another rear camera, and that snazzy curved-front design. It's worse in one way, which is Samsung's in-display fingerprint sensor that I find harder to use...

The standard S10 model is almost as excellent as the S10 Plus, but not quite

New in-screen fingerprint scanner is slower and more finicky than older ones ; Camera performance is not as good as Pixel in low light ; Slow software update schedule
