Lenovo ThinkPad 8 review: sharp screen, worst-in-class battery life

Not long ago, I vowed to review every 8-inch Windows tablet. That's partly because they're popular, sure, but there was another reason, too: Their specs

Full HD display -- a rarity among 8-inch Windows tablets ; One of the only tablets this size offered with 128GB of built-in storage ; Thin and light, even for a small-screened tablet

Worst-in-class battery life ; Expensive compared to other 8-inch Windows tablets ; Aluminum case scratches easily, as does the screen ; Backside can get quite hot ; Slower-than-average boot-up time

With a high price and worst-in-class battery life, the ThinkPad 8 should be the first 8-inch Windows tablet you cross off your shopping list. Though not terrible in its own right, other small-screened slates offer more value for less money.

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 Review

Lenovo's ThinkPad 8 is a fantastic tablet, but it's let down by it's operating system, Windows 8.1, which lags behind the competition.

Hands-on at CES 2014 - A great-looking 8.4-inch Windows 8.1 tablet

The ThinkPad 8 Tablet is a thing that – cue empowering music – understands that businesspeople are normal people too. It looks and feels better than any 8-inch Windows tablet we've seen. And while it's not super-powered, we imagine that many will be...

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 review

Meet the most powerful 8-inch Windows tablet

Gorgeous FHD screen ; Thin, light design ; Powerful multitasking

Cover adds bulk ; Buggy camera software ; Short battery life

Call it a luxury, but the ThinkPad 8 is the first work-ready, 8-inch Windows 8.1 tablet.

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 review: Fancier CPU and display take a toll on battery life

Your eyes will love the crisp 1900x1200-pixel resolution on the ThinkPad 8, even with the power-consumption tradeoff.

Fast Intel Atom processor ; Crisp 1900-by-1200-pixel display ; Excellent build quality

Lower-than-average battery life ; Awkward I/O port locations ; No digitizing pen or keyboard-case options

Lenovo’s ThinkPad 8 offers many advantages over competing 8 inch Windows tablets, including a faster processor, more storage, and a higher-resolution screen. But it comes up short when it comes to battery

Review: Lenovo ThinkPad 8

Putting full-bore Windows 8 on an 8-inch tablet that weighs less than a pound is no easy feat. But with the ThinkPad 8, Lenovo has...

Classic, understated Lenovo styling. Impressive performance and a gorgeous screen, though it might be a bit too finely detailed for peripheral-free use

Anemic battery life. Power/volume buttons are difficult to access

Lenovo ThinkPad 8

The Lenovo ThinkPad 8 is an 8-inch Windows tablet that puts your work into a handheld PC you can slip into a coat pocket. It's not a replacement for your work system, but it's an excellent companion to it.

Small 8-inch form factor is truly portable. All-day battery life. QuickShot cover makes photos a snap. Professional, yet affordable.

QuickShot smart cover is optional (and extra). No physical keyboard option. Few ports and connections available.

Conclusion The Lenovo ThinkPad 8 is Lenovo's first 8-inch tablet in the business-oriented ThinkPad line, and probably the best business tablet we've seen in this size. However, while Atom-powered tablets continue to get better, they still aren't quite...

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 review

Windows 8.1 is in the throes of an identity crisis. The operating system meant to usher in the future of computing found itself mired in the present, installed on laptops and desktops where its...

Great display ; Solid, premium design ; Incredibly long "can-do" list

Mediocre battery life ; Jack of all trades, master of none ; Desktop mode is unusable on such a small screen

Maybe I've been waiting for the wrong thing after all

Lenovo ThinkPad 8: An 8-inch Windows tablet, not a laptop

Compact design, a very sharp screen and nice extras make for a very good Windows 8 tablet, but don't expect keyboard accessories -- this one's best used for touch.

The ; runs full Windows 8.1, has an excellent higher-res 8.3-inch display, 64GB of storage standard, all the basic ports you'd need, and fits into a super-slim package.

More expensive than other 8-inch Windows tablets; doesn’t come with a stylus, or keyboard; other tablets have better battery life.

If you’re craving full Windows 8 on a tablet the size of an iPad Mini, and want a great display, the ThinkPad 8 is one of the best we’ve seen...but not by much.

Lenovo ThinkPad 8 review:

Windows 8 computers have slowly been getting smaller: the 8-inch full Windows barrier had been cracked most recently by the Dell Venue 8 Pro , and Toshiba Encore 8 , both of which were a bit better than previous 8-inch models. So, if you ever wanted a...
