Fitbit Ionic review: Fitbit’s fitness smartwatch is ugly but has some attractive features

If you're buying this as a smartwatch you might be a tad disappointed, but as a fitness tracker, it's very good

Fitbit's app remains excellent ; Good wrist cardio tracking ; Good battery life for a smartwatch

Lacks smartwatch features ; It still feels like a step-counter with knobs on rather than a truly useful running/gym companion ; It really is not a sexy thing

Fitbit Ionic review

A good try, but not quite iconic

Fitbit Pay works well ; Great fitness features ; Solid battery life

Controversial design ; Little bit slow ; Limited music offering

The first ever smartwatch from Fitbit is a fitness watch at its heart. If you’re looking for some wristwear to use while exercising the Fitbit Ionic may suit you, just don’t expect a similar experience to other smartwatches out there.

Fitbit Ionic review

The touchscreen Fitbit Ionic has GPS, a four-day battery life, onboard workouts & third-party apps, plus a special Adidas Edition.

Fitbit Ionic

Fitbit Ionic review: Fitbit's first smartwatch has a 4-day battery life and solid exercise tracking, but its smartwatch functionality is lacking.

Lightweight and comfortable ; Solid exercise tracking including swimming ; Typical Fitbit activity and sleep tracking ; Gorgeous screen ; Impressive battery life

Shortage of apps ; Occasionally slow OS ; Passive notifications ; Tedious music transfer ; Quick release strap quality control

If the Fitbit Ionic has one saving grace, it’s the battery life. Fitbit rates it at 4+ days and this was about right in the two weeks I’ve been wearing one. Depending on your use you can get closer to five days if you’re not tracking any workouts. GPS...

Fitbit Ionic review

Update 5/12/17: A big Ionic software update is incoming, bringing treats including offline music from Deezer...

Bold design ; Excellent sleep tracking ; GPS and heart-rate tracking work well ; Strong battery life

Virtually no third party apps yet ; Fitbit Coach not available till later in 2017 ; Fitbit Pay not ready in the UK yet ; Expensive for what it can currently do

Fitbit’s best all-round fitness tracker, just don’t call it a smartwatch yet

Fitbit Ionic review: Good fitness tracker, passable smartwatch

The Fitbit Ionic is the company's first real smartwatch, but it feels rushed, like a placeholder to secure a spot on your wrist while you wait for marquee features to roll out. Fitbit continues to excel at keeping tabs on your fitness, and the Ionic is...

Bright display ; Long battery life ; Comprehensive fitness features ; Swim tracking ; Contactless payments work well

Finicky, incomplete software ; Cannot reply to notifications ; Limited selection of third-party apps

As it stands, the Ionic is a capable fitness tracker with some passable smartwatch features. It's clear that Fitbit will continue to improve its software, but the magic it needs for the Ionic to seriously contend real smartwatches is faith. Faith from...

Fitbit Ionic review

Imagine there was a version of the Apple Watch that could go for four or five days between charges and work with Android phones as well as iPhones. The catch is that this superlative waterproof fitness tracker -- with sleep tracking! -- would come with...

The Fitbit Ionic offers a comfortable design, with 50-meter water resistance for swimming, GPS and mobile payments. You only need to recharge it once or twice a week.

While the Ionic supports future apps and watch faces, few are available yet. Included apps feel slow and don’t launch from the watch face. There's not much on-watch coaching and music storage and playback is often more trouble than it’s worth.

The Fitbit Ionic has all the features we’ve been wanting in a Fitbit for years, but it ultimately feels less than the sum of its parts.

Fitbit Ionic: Excellent activity tracker, but it's not a very smart watch

Fitbit's latest GPS sport watch may be the most capable Fitbit ever, but a month of testing reveals some areas for improvement. Matt Miller offers tips for new and prospective Ionic owners.

Fitbit Ionic review: not iconic, but still pretty good

It's finally here

Long battery life ; Third-party apps ; Built-in GPS ; Intuitive UI

Inelegant hardware ; Ships with uncomfortable strap ; No notification interaction ; Limited smartwatch functions

That battery life, though.
