Sprinting around and blasting through thousands of enemies feels more like cleanup than combat, and the good audiovisual presentation can only add so much. Serious Sam 3 can still pack a punch, but this boisterous shooter series has seen better days.

Some players are going to be turned off by the difficulty or the game's simple design, but even more are going to fall in love with a developer's mastery of this genre. Welcome back Sam. We missed you.
